If you follow my Twitter, you know that reports suggest that the recent Wii v4.2 system update is causing some consoles to fail (aka "bricking" them) even if they have not been modded for unauthorized homebrew. Apparently some code written to stop the modders can also cause an unmodified system from working. One theory is that the patch modifies the bootloader, which - if somehow corrupted during install - will cause the console startup process to fail with no way for the customer to bring it back. If this has happened to you, Nintendo is now saying that it will repair unmodified Wiis that fail at no charge...
