If you read the site, you know that I just invested in one of those new-fangled, no GBA-slot DSi portables. This means I have an
extra Nintendo DS Lite lying around with no other use than to play GBA games (and I still have a GBA for that) and that Guitar Hero: On Tour game, which I don't really play (but that's another week's giveaway!).
So, you want a DS? It works, though it's a little worse for wear. It might last a day, a week, a year or maybe longer, depending on luck and how well you take care of it. I wouldn't give it to a small kid, but it would make a good starter system for almost anyone else as long as they're not too finicky. Just a used white DS, my favorite orange stylus and an AC adapter.

How is the DSi in terms of build quality? I head the DSLite has a cracking hinge problem, but I have not seen the problem firsthand. However, I am intrigued by the DSi's storage memory and slightly improved screen.
Also, is Guitar Hero on the DS a satisfying experience? Looking at screenshots of the game and the gba slot controller, the experience seems lacking compared to home consoles when mimicking authentic guitar gameplay. Anyways, I hope I can find out for myself soon.

DS is a great system, 100 million units sold can't be wrong. i was thinking about picking up the new DSi but i'm only really interested in the online stuff. i guess the bigger screens are cool too.

Well, giving your DS away is incredibly generous of you. I've wanted one for a while but I simply couldn't spare the change.
If that orange stylus is indeed your favorite, I would suggest that you switch it with one that you're not quite so attached too. That is assuming you are attached to the stylus of course.

Hurray! Hand me downs! I had a DS a year or so ago, buuutttt.... I let someone borrow it who I thought would be responsible with it. It came back torn to hell without a stylus and a broken hinge. The peripheral for Guitar Hero: On Tour is... interesting, to say the least. It definitely takes some getting used to. Though to be fair, I've only tried out an in-store demo, and you know how well set up those displays are.
