Free Stuff Friday - Child's Play Charity edition (make a difference and win a cool CD!)

Child's Play Dinner 2008: Program and CDThis week, in honor of Child's Play Charity, I'm going to change things up. With the economy the way it is, you may not be up to making your own donation this year. Here's your chance to give by proxy.

One lucky winner will take home a collectable Child's Play auction program (lists all of this year's auction items), a Child's Play Charity CD ($10 value with 14 tracks from nerdcore artists including Jonathan Coulton, MC Frontalot, The OneUps, Freezepop and The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets) and the chance to help me donate to the hospital of YOUR choice.

As fans of this site know, we've been boosters of this cause since its start, attending every auction and then donating an additional amount in gifts to various hospitals. The first few years, there was only our own local Seattle Children's - which we love, but they get plenty of attention now. They've since opened up the giving program to benefit hospitals all over the world, so the past few years I've donated to the Washington, D.C., Children's Hospital (which helped me out when I was little) and GrrlGotGame to the one in her hometown.

This year, you get to pick. We gave a bit more than we had planned at the auction event on Tuesday, but we still have $100 set aside to donate.

As they say on Survivor: "Worth playing for?" Here's how to enter:

Simply post a comment on this page that states which hospital you are playing for. If you like, go ahead and select items from that hospital's wish list totaling up to $100 (before shipping and tax). This second part is optional; if you win, you can choose the items then or leave it to me to decide what to give. Either way, I'll post the full listing of purchases here once it's done. (I'll reserve the right to make substitutions if items aren't available, exceed the hospital's requested limit or don't add up to the promised amount, though I'll try to consult with you if feasible.)

As usual, say whatever is on your mind as long as it's not an ad or profane. Be sure to read the Sweepstakes Rules to ensure you are eligible to win and don't get disqualified by double-posting or forgetting to provide an e-mail address. (You may also want to whitelist my domain; after several near misses, I finally had someone lose out because they never responded to their prize notification!)

Note that unless you're an authenticated poster who has been active on the site and marked as trusted, your comment will NOT appear immediately. It will go into a queue for me to approve, which I'll do several times a day. Do NOT double-post. We'll extend the entry period for this until 8:01 a.m. Pacific Time on Thursday, December 18 to ensure you have plenty of time to enter and verify your entry was accepted. Then watch your e-mail on Thursday to see if you won, and check back the next day for another giveaway!

Great idea. If i win this i will also add $50 to your $100

playing or children hospital of Michigan (Detroit)

I'll support the hospital above as well as Detroit could really use some help.

Awesome idea...I'm playing for Cincinnati Children's Hospital.

I'd like to support my local children's hospital, Schneider Children's Hospital at North Shore. I think it is great you are holding this contest to benefit people that need it. Kudos.

I'll play for the Children's Hospital of Michigan (Detroit) as well. It's the hospital closest to me, but they need it anyway.

Playing for Midwest's Children's Hospital in Nebraska.

I'll play for Vanderbilt Children's Hospital in Nashville, TN.

Nice contest Gamewatcher. I am playing for Children’s Hospital Oakland which gave my sister her internship while she was in college.

Ill join in, and I am playing for Children s Medical Center in Dallas Tx, Closest to me and also where I had two surgery's when i was young.

Very good idea, no Children's Hospitals near me so I'll play for Children s Medical Center in Dallas I guess.

UPDATED AT POSTER'S REQUEST:

just entered the contest you are running with the Child's Play CD, but I chose the wrong hospital. I chose Children's Hospital of Dallas because when you posted a list of hospitals in play I misinterpreted it as those are the only ones allowed to be used. I would have chosen Children's Hosptial of Philadelphia. Is there any way I can change this? Thanks great cause btw.

University of Iowa Children's Hospital

How did I miss this for so long?

Playing for Children's Hospital of Dallas.

Count me in, I'm playing for the Arizona Childrens Center.
