The big news for music game fans is that The Beatles music library has been licensed to MTV and Harmonix for use in a new rhythm game that appears will use the Rock Band instruments but won't be an expansion to that series. At first blush, this sounds a little like a standalone version of what NeverSoft did for Tool in Guitar Hero: World Tour - a custom game experience that somewhat extends the artistry within the core gaming engine. But perhaps not. We're still waiting for an official announcement with details about the gameplay.
Fortunately, there is plenty of other music game news to keep us busy until we get spoonfed more details.

For instance, Guitar Hero: World Tour was recently patched to permit Xbox 360 players to use the $300 ION Drum Rocker kit created for Rock Band 2. Apparently, the World Tour drums will already work on the Xbox 360 version of Rock Band 2 (and vice versa), but not so with the PS3 edition. Guitars are reportedly interchangeable between both games on both platforms, though only for the shared features (main buttons, strummer and whammy bar).
A recent Rock Band 2 update quietly fixes issues with buggy drum notes, silent online drum fills and drum fill lanes that occasionally disappear.
If portable strumming on the DS is your thing, Guitar Hero: On Tour Decades now has an official listing of the game's 28 tracks:
