After denying rumors for months, Nintendo has confirmed the next iteration of its dual-screen portable line: the
Nintendo DSi. Due November 1 in Japan but not until next year in the U.S. and other markets, the DSi finally does away with the GameBoy Advance slot in trade for larger 3.25-inch screens, a really poor 640x480 camera, unspecified "audio enhancements" (rumored to be related to a music player feature!), an SD memory slot for photos (and music?!), a built in Web browser and the option to buy games ("DSiWare") directly from an online DSi Shop. Pricing for U.S. is not known, but the Japanese version will cost the equivalent of $180 and come in white and black at launch...

I enjoy my DS. My favorite games are Contra 4 and Pokemon. But I also have Final Fantasy, Zelda, and Advance Wars for GBA. I do like the idea of a bigger screen but I won't give up my GBA slot. Mario and Luigi: Partners in time was also very good. In my opinion the DS games should have been SD cards from the start. They are about the same size.

Me too. As a busy gamer, the DS is the only platform I can play anywhere at any time and not have to worry about saving my game. (There's the PSP too but I rarely find anything I want to play on it.) I like the GBA compatibility, but rarely use it. I might be tempted by the DSi eventually, though not for the low-res camera and probably not for the music unless it can be neatly integrated into a wide range of games.
The DSiWare store is intriguing, assuming the DRM isn't a major issue. Downloading demos from the Wii is a pain; I would much prefer downloading them straight to the DS. And I could be tempted by some low cost titles.

The thing I've found true about the internet is this: If there's a rumor, and it hits enough different websites, it's probably mostly, if not totally true. Companies are always denying stuff (and I guess I don't blame them). But it seems that eventually all of their denials turn out to be "lies".
Everytime I hear multiple rumors on one topic (like a new DS) I'm more likely to believe them, than the companies.
