The PlayStation 3 has a new firmware update and another on the not-to-distant horizon. There are no specifics given, but the just released v2.36 patch provides improved "system stability when playing select PlayStation format software titles." One presumes they mean Grand Theft Auto IV, which most PS3 gamers have just recently evicted from their Blu-Ray drives for Metal Gear Solid 4. More promising is the v2.40 update, which Sony confirmed will add in-game access to the Cross Media Bar (XMB), similar to the Xbox 360 in-game dashboard, and trophies - Sony's answer to Microsoft's achievements. There's no date for v2.4, but they wouldn't be trumpeting it so loud if it wasn't coming soon...
