The big news is that the rumored v2.0 firmware for the PlayStation 3 is released, and it's everything we expected:
- Custom themes, which include background image or color, icons and font (details on how to roll your own)
- Playlists for music and photos (though curiously, you can't put a slideshow to music). There are some neat special effects, such as pictures dropping into a photo album.
- A few new options to group and sort games and videos, though you can't create your folders
- PlayStation notifications, which are marketing blurbs that take the form of an extremely small news ticker. Alas, there's no option to simply list the headlines, although you can turn them off from the Network tab.
- Remote Start for your PS3 via linked PSP, so you can turn on your PS3 from the Internet and then control it remotely
- A new PlayStation Network category, which is where you'll find the Store now. Your background download status remains under Network, further confusing things.
- Demos: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and College Hoops 2K8
- Guitar Hero III Music Packs ($6.25 each) - Foo Fighters (The Pretender, All My Life and This is a Call) and Velvet Revolver (She Builds Quick Machines, Slither and Messages)
- MotorStorm Devil's Weekend ($6; preview video available) with a new track, nine races, five vehicles with three styles each, two sets of skins for classic vehicles, new unlockable vehicles and a hidden music track
- Game Videos: Burnout Paradise, Devil May Cry 4, Ratchet and Clank Future and WWE Smackdown vs. Raw
- Wallpaper: Call of Duty 4
- Themes: Nature, Pixels and Classy Pink
- Movie Trailers: Hostel II, One Missed Call and Sweeney Todd
