With con artists trying to capitalize on real tragedies such as the tsunami disaster in Asia, where can you turn if you want to help? How about a guy named Crazy Joe who plays a lot of Ultima Online. Joe Harden of San Antonio, Texas has collected millions in digital gold and in-game items from generous UO players short on actual cash - and now he's trying to convert it into real money via eBay auctions. Though not officially sponsored, he promises to send all proceeds to the Red Cross to fund disaster relief (after recouping a $3,000 donation he made on faith that the UO community would come through). It does beg the question: Would you really send money to a guy who calls himself Crazy Joe? Seriously, the effort does appear legit - but take a look at the guy's site at crazyjoe.us and decide for yourself. One caveat: If you work for a company that matches donations, be sure to send your green to a legitimate charity to maximize your contribution. Gamestay recommends the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies; they were the first on the ground with real help and that's where we sent ours...
